Owning a vessel means survey, berth fees, insurance, crew, winter haul-out and depreciation — for most people a yacht spends far more time at the dock than at sea. Chartering turns all of that into a per-week or per-day price: you pay for the sailing, not the standing costs. A bareboat charter hands you the helm (with the right licence and experience); a crewed or skippered charter brings a captain, and at the top end a full crew, chef and toys. Peer-to-peer marketplaces rent out privately-owned boats by the day, much like home-sharing.
